A while ago Steam decided to do Medieval 2 update, which broke compatibility with a lot of existing mods, including Concentrated Vanilla.
It took me a while to figure out what the hell - mostly because Steam decided to simultaneously screw up my Medieval 2 installation, and only full reinstall of both the game and Steam itself, followed by then fixing the mod would work.
Fortunately it's all done now. Just grab latest zip from github. It probably won't work with non-Steam retail version - if you have that, just get older version.
And one more thing - if you try to run concentrated_vanilla.bat while Steam is off, it will run unmodded game. Make sure Steam is running before you run concentrated_vanilla.bat. Nothing I can do about that.
Enjoy the game.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteWhat should a successful launch of the mod look like?
The game will launch, but there's no indication that it has loaded the mod.
There appears to be no Launcher.exe to delete either - there's just the medieval2.exe
As I understand the installation process:
Move concentrated-vanilla-master to the mod folder for medieval2 - which also has the Kingdoms DLC.
Take concentrated_vanilla.bat, concentrated_vanilla.cfg and concentrated_vanilla directory from output, mods and place in the main medieval2 directory.
add launch property: @concentrated_vanilla.cfg to the medieval.exe.
Is this correct?
Anonymous: There should be yellow concentrated vanilla in main menu if mod is actually working.
ReplyDeleteThere's been so many versions of M2 around that it's really hard to figure out correct instructions :-/
However, what you're doing is definitely not it.
Just copy stuff from output/ folder:
* output/concentrated_vanilla.bat to /concentrated_vanilla.bat
* output/mods/concentrated_vanilla to //mods/concentrated_vanilla
That should work for latest Steam version of M2 (not Kingdoms), if I remember correctly.
Brilliant, that worked perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThank you for creating this mod.
hi
ReplyDeletei cant find a mod folder on the new mac compatible version of medieval 2, is this compatible? any clues?
mac version via steam I should have said.
ReplyDeleteI tested Steam Windows version and retail Windows version, I didn't even know Mac verison existed. You can give it a try, but it would probably take some figuring it out on your side.
ReplyDeleteOk . I have tried, got nowhere, the folders have been altered in the conversion, hard to know where to put what!
ReplyDeleteif you get the opportunity to have a look that would be great, I have tried playing the normal version and its significantly less enjoyable than the concentrated vanilla version.
ReplyDeletethanks
Hi again
ReplyDeleteAny chance you do a more detailed explanation of where to to copy the relevant files to and from? Then u can try and apply the steps to the Mac version.
Thanks
I meant i will apply the steps. i am having no luck ...any chance you could have a look please?
ReplyDeleteI'll take a look at it when I have some time but that probably won't be before weekend.
ReplyDeletethanks that would be great, much appreciated.
ReplyDeletehi
ReplyDeleteany joy?
If anybody else needs it, methods that worked for me:
ReplyDelete* Copy output/mods/concentrated_vanilla to ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Medieval II Total War/Medieval2Data/mods/concentrated_vanilla
* Run Steam launcher, select "Play Medieval II: Total War" (and not any of the kingdoms expansions)
* In Mac launcher, go to advanced options
* Put exactly this there: --features.mod=mods/concentrated_vanilla
* If it worked, you'll see yellow "Concentrated Vanilla" once in main menu
